The National Poetry Competition 2019

Who may enter
The competition is open to anyone aged 17 or older. International entries are welcome.

The contest is organized by the Poetry Society.

The competition is for previously unpublished poems of up to 40 lines in length.

Entries must be written in English.

Entries can be on any subject.

Entries must not have been published, self-published, published on a website, broadcast or featured among the winners in another competition before 31 March 2020.

The competition will be judged by Mona Arshi, Helen Mort and Maurice Riordan.

Entry fees
The first poem submitted costs £7. Subsequent entries in the same submission cost £4 per poem.

• 1st prize: £5,000
• 2nd prize: £2,000
• 3rd prize: £1,000
• seven commendations of £200.
