It was a hot day at the beach and as a man was walking past, he noticed a young boy throwing something into the sea. The boy did this several times. He picked up something from the sand and kept throwing it into the sea.
On closer examination, the man saw that hundreds of starfish had washed on the shore. The young boy was valiantly trying to throw the starfish back into the ocean.
“Foolish boy, you can’t save all the starfish” He called out. “Look, there are still hundreds of starfish on the sea shore. You’re putting in so much of effort, but it makes no difference.”
The boy smiled and continued in his effort. “It makes a difference to this starfish! I may not be able to save them all, but if I can save even one, that’s enough for me. “
Sometimes we don’t reach out with a listening ear or a helping hand, because we feel that it won’t make a difference. But it all it takes is a moment of kindness to turn the tide of someone’s life. Let’s reach out to our friends, family members, colleagues; let’s make a difference in their lives and…
“A single, ordinary person still can make a difference – and single, ordinary people are doing precisely that every day.”
